Steve Orrin

Steve Orrin is Chief Technologist for Intel Corp’s Federal Division & Intel Federal LLC and is responsible for Cyber Security and Cloud Strategy, Solution Architecture and Engagements. Steve has held architectural leadership positions at Intel where he has led strategy and projects on Identity, Anti-malware, HTML5 Security, Cloud and Virtualization Security, and is the creator of Trusted Compute Pools Secure Cloud Architecture and co-author of NIST’s IR-7904 Trusted Geo-Location in the Cloud”. Steve joined Intel as part of the acquisition of Sarvega, Inc. where he was their CSO. Steve was previously CTO of Sanctum, a pioneer in Web application security testing and firewall software. Prior to joining Sanctum, Steve was CTO and co-founder of LockStar, Inc. LockStar provided enterprises with the means to secure and XML/Web Service enable legacy mainframe and enterprise applications for e-business. Steve joined LockStar from SynData Technologies, Inc. where he was CTO and chief architect of their desktop e-mail and file security product. Steve is a recognized expert and frequent lecturer on enterprise security and was named one of InfoWorld's Top 25 CTO's of 2004 and, in 2016, received Executive Mosaic’s Top CTO Executives Award. He is a fellow at the Center for Advanced Defense Studies and a Guest Researcher at the NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE). Steve is a member of AFCEA, INSA, ISACA, OASIS, IACR and is a co-Founder and Officer of WASC (Web Application Security Consortium) and is the Vice-Chair of the NSITC/IDESG Security Committee.

Jay Gill

Jay Gill is a principal manager for cloud and SDN marketing at Infinera. He is responsible for market development in the cloud networking segment, and for software defined network (SDN) market and communications strategy across the Infinera portfolio. Jay has over 25 years of experience in strategy, product management, engineering and marketing. Prior to Infinera, he was at Cisco for over 10 years in a variety of positions related to the service provider business. Earlier in his career, Jay worked at several service providers including both incumbents and startups. Jay holds a BSEE and MSEE from Stanford and an MBA from UCLA Anderson.

David Hessong

Brett Lane
Director of Technology

Brett Lane has over 20 years of experience in research, development and product management of optical communication systems. Currently, Brett is the Director of Technology for Panduit Corp located in suburban Chicago. Before becoming a Director, Brett held several commercial and technical positions within Panduit’s Research and Development and the Data Center Infrastructure Business Organizations. Prior to joining Panduit in 2003, he worked at Molex Fiber Optics on advanced optical transceiver design.

Brett has been active contributor and leader within several domestic and international fiber optic standards development organizations. Brett served as the Chairman of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Joint Task Group to develop the next generation multimode fiber (Wide Band Multimode Fiber) and has served as the Vice-Chairman of the TIA Subcommittee on Fibers and Cables (TR-42.12) for the past 8 years. Brett is the author of over 40 technical publications on fiber optic, electronic and optoelectronic devices and holds 10 US patents in this field.

Brett received his M.B.A from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2013, Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University in 2001 and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996.

Darrell Tanno

After a lengthy career as a marketing executive in high-tech fields, Darrell Tanno now serves the tech industry as marketing consultant, often involving content development. A deep thinker who places a premium on execution, Mr. Tanno has led efforts that produced many successful companies and products, spoken around the world, and has authored numerous papers and articles. Recently he developed a well received, three-part cybersecurity tutorial that can be found at www.solutionsreservoir.com. His areas of technical expertise include Cybersecurity, Data/Telecom, Cloud/IT, Data Centers, and Wireless/RF/Satellite. Mr. Tanno’s underlying grasp and appreciation of technologies derives from his educational background, MSEE and BSEE degrees from, respectively, Stanford University and Boston University. He also completed specialized, marketing executive training at the Sprint University of Excellence.

Chip Freund
Director, Colocation Product Marketing

Chip has been in IT related businesses for over 25 years. Chip joined Savvis in 2013 as the Director of Colocation Product Marketing, where he leads the global marketing efforts for CenturyLink’s data center colocation business. Prior to joining Savvis, Chip served as a product marketing director for Verizon supporting a variety of service and solution portfolios, including: managed network and security services, managed mobility, and integrated solutions. Chip traces his lineage through the Verizon family tree back to CompuServe, which was acquired in 1998. In his 15 years with the company, he held roles in a variety of organizations including Sales Engineering, Sales, and Internet product marketing prior to leading the Managed Services Product Marketing team. Chip holds a MBA from John Carroll University and a BA in Computer Science and Biology from Wittenberg University.

Steve Geffin

As the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Steve Geffin focuses on strategy creation, engagements with key customers and the research of emerging technologies and trends that align with the company’s objectives and future direction.

He is responsible for driving the development of numerous software solutions for the management and control of the physical infrastructure for the data center and telecommunications market.

During his tenure at Emerson Network Power and previously at Avocent (acquired in December 2009) Steve has held a number of management positions including; vice president of architecture, vice president of engineering, vice president of technology and vice president of software product management.

He has over 30 years’ experience in developing innovative hardware and software products and solutions. Steve has numerous journal publications and has been awarded a number of patents.

Steve holds both a master’s degree and bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Miami, Florida.

Bruce Ogden

Mr. Ogden is responsible for business and market development for the colocation, cloud and network ecosystem that leverage the Level 3 software defined network (SDN). Bruce is a subject matter expert on Level 3 data center products and services as well as those of the many third party operators. With over 25 years of telecommunications, software, technology and IT infrastructure experience, Bruce has supports the Level 3 sales organization to qualify customer requirements and develop comprehensive hybrid IT and network solutions. Bruce loves to evangelize and demystify technology to the enterprise.

Brett Kirby

Brett Kirby is responsible for Power and Telephone Supply Company’s Data Center focus. Previous to Power and Tel, Kirby led the teams that designed, constructed and operated data centers and central office facilities for Comlink in East Lansing, MI. Kirby has 25 years of telecommunications industry experience at companies including US Signal, Brooks Fiber Communications, and Gabriel Communications (Nuvox). He has experience in a variety of disciplines, including telecom facility and data center design, construction and management; also procurement, network surveillance and facility maintenance. Brett holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan State University and an MBA from Central Michigan University.

Jackson Metcalf

Jackson Metcalf finds ways to create award-winning data centers noted for their sustainable design and technical prowess—including 4 data centers which achieved LEED Gold certification. In his 10 years with Gensler, he has worked on a variety of projects, specializing in the design of commercial office buildings and critical facilities.

Jackson leads the Critical Facilities Practice Area for Gensler’s North Central Region which includes the Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit and La Crosse offices. In demand as a thought leader, Jackson has worked on project in many of Gensler’s offices around the globe.

Dr. Patrick Van Vickle

With nearly 20 years of experience in the Communications and Information industry, Dr. Patrick Van Vickle serves as Director of Research and Development at Sumitomo Electric Lightwave. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University with a dissertation titled “Photonic Bandgap Fibers for Transverse Strain Sensing.” He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina, has been awarded a patent and has authored multiple technical papers related to optical fiber evaluation and fiber optic cable design. Patrick’s work is integral to Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s goals for continuous innovations for the data center and providing the latest and most advanced solutions for the ICT industry.

James S. Coe, PE, RCDD

James Coe is Syska’s Critical Facilities Director. He has over 30 years of experience in Engineering Operations, Project Management, and Design. His experience is focused on providing consulting, design, reliability assessments, and commissioning for Mission Critical Facilities. He is highly regarded by his many clients including AT&T, Bank of America, Chevron, Cisco, Cleveland Clinic, Delta Airlines, Duke Energy, Home Depot, General Electric, General Motors, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Marriott, Oracle, PNC Bank, Sprint, United Parcel Service, Verizon Wireless, Yahoo, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the US Navy.

James is a Professional Engineer (PE) registered in 40 US States and a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD). He leads a team of 150 Professionals in the Practice of Data Center and Critical Facility Design and Consulting. James previously served in the US Navy as a Nuclear Engineer and Surface Warfare Officer.

James has a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and a Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. James is an Instrument-Rated Private Pilot who flies regularly. James’ extensive education and experience, as well as his ability to facilitate communication and coordination, is vital to maintaining uptime and reliability for Syska’s clients.

Stephanie Montgomery
Vice President, Technology and Standards

Stephanie Montgomery has more than 20 years of experience managing voluntary standards development and international partnerships within the Information and Communications Technology industry.

She currently leads TIA’s technology and standards division, which boasts more than 1,000 standards developed by TIA’s engineering committees. In this role, Stephanie oversees the establishment of committee procedures; the implementation, development and advancement of new programs; and overall promotion of TIA standards development programs.

Stephanie joined TIA in 1994 and has worked in various positions with a wide range of increasing responsibilities in standards development. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in history and is a member of the Standards Engineering Society.
