The United States Information Technology Office (USITO), in alliance with its partners and support from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), held a one-day event titled "The Role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Industrialization” at the Beijing Hilton Hotel.  The goal of the event was to help USITO member companies better understand China's industrial policies, particularly those related to innovation, ongoing efforts to restructure the government ICT administrative structures, and the national upsurge to develop indigenous ICT standards.

Participants included USITO member company representatives, U.S. and Chinese company executives, industry experts, thought leaders, and government officials. Participants included senior executives from China Association of Communication Enterprises (CACE), the Deputy Director General from the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Industry and Industry Technology (MIIT), the General Manager of China Mobile Research Institute, the Deputy Chief Engineer from China Academy of Telecom Research (CATR) of MIIT, head of China RFID Alliance, Chinese communication standards making bodies including China Communications Standards Association (CCSA) and China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI), senior executives from USITO and CACE member companies.

Nick Fetchko

Nick Fetchko (above), TIA’s Director for International and Government Affairs, made a presentation on the benefits of the U.S. open, voluntary, and consensus-driven standards process as practiced by TIA as an ANSI accredited standards development organization.

USITO has been tracking China's national overarching indigenous innovation drive, in which the development of indigenous technical standards is increasingly emphasized by the Chinese government as a key policy tool. The October.22 event as part of the effort was of great importance to building a platform for the industry dialogue between the two nations.
