TIA Joins 15 Business Groups in Urging USTR to Address Barriers to Trade at U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum

Arlington, Va. (Nov. 26, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, joined 15 other business groups in signing a letter by the Alliance for Fair Trade with India (AFTI) urging Ambassador Froman, the U.S. Trade Representative, to pursue meaningful outcomes at the upcoming U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum. Specifically, the letter calls for him to address barriers to trade for the telecommunications sector and for other sectors.

TIA CEO Scott Belcher states, "We welcome the resumption of the U.S.-India Trade Policy Forum, which has not met since 2010. The Trade Policy Forum remains a vital mechanism to enhance the commercial environment for U.S. and Indian companies by addressing barriers to trade and investment for the mutual benefit of the commercial relationship between the United States and India."

In the letter, TIA joined 15 other organizations representing all sectors of the U.S. economy in applauding the success of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative in resolving the impasse on the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and restarting the Trade Policy Forum. In addition, the letter urges Ambassador Froman to remain vigilant in his insistence that long standing barriers be addressed.
