Congress Passes Industry-Backed Bill to Modernize Product Warranty Regulations

Arlington, VA (September 8, 2015) - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded lawmakers in the House for passing legislation to modernize warranty requirements by allowing manufacturers to post warranties online.

The E-Warranty Act of 2015 (S. 1359), introduced by U.S. Senators Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), was passed unanimously by the Senate on July 9, 2015. U.S. Representatives Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) and Dave Loebsack (D-Iowa) introduced a companion bill (H.R. 3154) in the House on July 22, which passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee by voice vote on July 29.

TIA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs James Reid issued the following statement:

"TIA applauds the House for passing the E-Warranty Act to modernize manufacturing requirements by allowing product warranties to be posted online. This bipartisan, common sense legislation will increase consumer access to important information while decreasing production costs. We thank Senators Fischer and Nelson and Representatives Mullin and Loebsack for their efforts to streamline regulations to help consumers and urge the President to quickly sign this bill into law."
