TIA Applauds Passage of E-LABEL Act; Says It Encourages Innovation and Consumer Access to Device Information

Arlington, VA (September 11, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the passing of the Enhance Labeling, Accessing, and Branding of Electronic Licenses Act of 2014 (E-LABEL Act), which will improve opportunities for innovation and competition while also expanding consumer access to important device information.

TIA has been a champion for streamlining device approval processes around the globe, including through such allowances as electronic labeling (eLabeling).

TIA President Grant Seiffert commented, "The E-LABEL ACT recognizes the need for the ICT industry to use innovative product designs to distinguish and improve the performance of products, while also building toward increased regulatory certainty for manufacturers. By granting device manufacturers the ability to use eLabels, the legislation eases the technical and logistical burdens on manufacturers and improves consumer access to important device information. American consumers will be able to access easily readable and prominently displayed information about the devices they use every day. We appreciate Congress’ leadership on this legislation."

TIA also supports the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) public guidance on how devices with an integrated display screen can present required label and regulatory information electronically in lieu of a physical label or nameplate.
