Leading ICT Standards-Setting Groups in U.S. & Israel Sign Collaboration Agreement

TIA & SII Committed to Precedent-Setting ICT Industry Standards Development and Implementation

ARLINGTON, VA (August 1, 2012) - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, announced today that it has joined with the Standards Institution of Israel (SII) in signing an Honorary and Friendship Agreement to work together on ICT industry standards development and implementation.

"Communications technologies cross geographical boundaries to support businesses and consumers, and so do TIA standards,” said TIA President Grant Seiffert. “This friendship agreement marks an important step for TIA as the utilization of our standards is expanding beyond North America – and the demand for standards is rapidly increasing. For this reason, our agreement with the Standards Institution of Israel will help us meet the needs of global technological growth and consumer demand. By partnering with leading standards-setting organizations worldwide such as SII, TIA is ensuring efficient and effective worldwide access to cutting edge technology and communications services.”

The Honorary and Friendship Agreement will promote the growth and development of the communications industry in the United States, Israel and worldwide. As part of the agreement, TIA and SII have established a collaborative arrangement whereby the two organizations will freely exchange information and engage in a variety of standards development activities.

“TIA Standards provide the basis for ICT designs and specifications around the world,” said Daniel Goldstein, Director General of SII. “This agreement will enhance our efforts to offer voluntary standards in Israel. By working with TIA, we benefit from the tremendous work they’ve already accomplished to promote harmonious standards development.”

TIA committees produce voluntary industry standards (TIA Standards) and American National Standards, as well as TIA Telecommunications Systems Bulletins (TSB), and other documents in the fields of Communications (Wireless, M2M, Satellite, User Premises and others), Distribution Systems, and Fiber Optics. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and recognized by the International Telecommunication Union under ITU-T Recommendations A.5 and A.6. Recently, TIA has responded to the changing telecommunications environment with the creation of new standards committees, such as those on Smart Device Communications and Smart Utility Networks.
