New TIA Documentary Tackles Enormous Challenge of Building Broadband Capacity and Meeting Consumer & Business Demand

Second Episode in Four-Part “Future of the Network” Documentary Series Includes Interviews with Policymakers, Company Executives, Journalists, Analysts, and More

ARLINGTON, VA (May 23, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today released “Broadband Capacity: Are We Ready?” the second installment in its Future of the Network documentary series. 

The new 30-minute episode focuses on the enormous challenges and significant opportunities presented by high-speed networks, and explores a wide range of important and controversial issues, including: the pressures of meeting growing consumer demand; how and when greater network speeds will be achieved; the state of broadband infrastructure in the U.S.; the impact of broadband on public education; how government spending and public policy is influencing broadband penetration; the impact of the spectrum crunch on innovation; and more.

The documentary, produced by TIA NOW, provides background and analysis on these issues, and is centered around a series of in-depth interviews with leaders who are charting the future of broadband in the U.S., including former Federal Communications Commissioner Robert McDowell, AT&T Chairman & CEO Randall Stephenson and Google Fiber Team Leader Carlos Casas. It also features experts from ADTRAN, Frontier Communications, Motorola Solutions, NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association, U.S. Broadband Coalition, Connect2Compete, and others.

The full documentary will serve as a primer for TIA 2013: The Future of the Network event, the organization’s flagship conference, the organization’s flagship conference, which will take place Oct. 8-10 in Washington, D.C.  Each issue featured in the Future of the Network Documentary will be a key focus at TIA 2013.
