In Response to Senate Net Neutrality Hearing, TIA Cautions Against Title II Regulatory Model
Arlington, Va. (Sept. 18, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, submitted a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee in response to the Committee's September 17 net neutrality hearing, Why Net Neutrality Matters: Protecting Consumers and Competition Through Meaningful Open Internet Rules.
In the letter, TIA President Grant Seiffert cautioned against using the utility-like regulatory model of Title II of the Telecommunications Act:
"Deployment of next-generation broadband networks is bringing major advances in education, healthcare, teleworking, e-commerce, public safety and security. These capabilities are equipping users with the tools necessary to compete in the 21st century, making them far more productive, increasing their standards of living, and enhancing economic and physical security."
