Telephone Terminal Equipment Standards for Wideband Analog Telephones Used with High Definition Voice Services

Arlington VA.(November 30, 2012) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-41.3 Engineering Committee on Analog and Digital Wireline Terminals unanimously approved the creation of four new standards to become sub-documents to the TIA-470 series of analog telephone standards to cover requirements for wideband (also known as high definition voice) analog telephones that may be connected to analog terminal adapters (ATAs), multimedia terminal adapters (MTAs), or voice gateways (VGs) to provide wideband voice communications via packet-based services such as VoIP.

TR-41.3 issued a call for interest for following documents:

ANSI/TIA-470.340 initially titled "Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Feature Performance Requirements for Wideband Analog Telephones Used with VoIP Services". TR-41.3 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: " This document addresses wideband feature performance requirements such as the terminal notifying the ATA, MTA, or VG to which it is connected that it has wideband capability and determining whether it should operate in wideband or narrowband mode based on information received from the connected device about the capabilities of the far end terminal."

ANSI/TIA-470.112 initially titled "Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Transmission Requirements for Wideband Analog Telephones with Handsets". TR-41.3 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: "This -document addresses the wideband voice transmission requirements specific to analog telephones equipped with handsets."

ANSI/TIA-470.122 initially titled "Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Transmission Requirements for Wideband Analog Telephones with Speakerphones". TR-41.3 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: "This document addresses the wideband voice transmission requirements specific to analog telephones equipped with speakerphones."

ANSI/TIA-470.132 initially titled "Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Transmission Requirements for Wideband Analog Telephones with Headsets". TR-41.3 is developing guidelines in the area defined by the following scope: “This document addresses the wideband voice transmission requirements specific to analog telephones equipped with headsets.”

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: corded and cordless telephone manufactures, analog terminal adapter manufacturers, multimedia terminal adapter manufactures, voice gateway manufacturers, VoIP service providers, DSL and cable Internet service providers, DECT / CAT-iq chipset makers, telephone controller IC makers, and VoIP telephone manufacturers.
