TIA and Wi-SUN Alliance Sign Liaison Agreement to Foster Closer Cooperation

Arlington, VA. (February 19, 2015) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, and the Wi-SUN Alliance (Wi-SUN) have announced a Liaison Agreement that enables a formal relationship and fosters closer cooperation between TIA and Wi-SUN.

According to the agreement, TIA and Wi-SUN will cooperate in specific areas of mutual interest, including exchange of information on relevant technical and marketing work programs. The agreement supports TIA and Wi-SUN's mutual goal to collaborate and promote standards.

Wi-SUN Alliance members include international companies helping to build Smart Utility Network infrastructure on five continents. The growth of Smart Grid markets in Australia, Europe, North and South America and the Asian region is driving the need for verification and certification of standards.

Stephanie Montgomery, the Acting Vice President for Technology and Standards of TIA said: “TIA is very pleased to be collaborating with the Wi-SUN Alliance on developing the communication standards to support the future of smart utility networks.” Phil Beecher, Chairman of Wi-SUN added: “This agreement provides a great opportunity for the Wi-SUN Alliance to cooperate with TIA to enhance the TR-51 series of standards, for the benefit of the utility and Smart City industries.”

TIA actively seeks participation and contributions from the user and general interest communities. For more information about TR-51 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova.
