TIA Applauds FCC NPRM to Release 5 GHz Spectrum for Wi-Fi Use

ARLINGTON, VA (February 21, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to free up spectrum in the 5 GHz band for Wi-Fi use.  TIA issued the following statement:

“Consumers will benefit from the FCC's steps toward making more unlicensed spectrum in the 5 GHz band available for technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.   The short-range propagation characteristics of 5 GHz spectrum enable localized reuse with minimal risk of interference.  TIA applauds the FCC for taking these actions.”
