TIA Applauds Senate Passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform Legislation

Arlington, Va. (June 27, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading trade association for global manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers of information and communications technology (ICT), applauded the Senate for passing S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, by a strong bipartisan margin of 68-32.  TIA President Grant Seiffert issued the following statement:

“The Senate’s passage of comprehensive immigration reform legislation is a critical step towards ensuring the strength and prosperity of the American economy.  TIA and our member companies feel strongly that this landmark bill will create jobs and help maintain our global leadership in innovation.

“This bill modernizes our broken immigration system, and helps to both solve the near-term need for talent by enacting policies that will attract the best and brightest workers, and address future pipeline issues by improving STEM education in America.  Because it makes the immigration system more usable and predictable, the legislation will help ICT companies develop the latest innovative technologies and create greater opportunities for American workers.  We greatly appreciate the hard work and leadership from the Gang of Eight and all of the bill’s bipartisan supporters, and we urge the House to act swiftly in passing much-needed immigration reform.”
