TIA Applauds Senate for Passing Resolution Against International Internet Regulation

ARLINGTON, VA (September 24, 2012) - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, applauds the Senate for unanimously passing a resolution opposing efforts by some foreign governments to impose new rules on the Internet.

The Senate’s action joins the previous unanimous vote in the House of Representatives earlier this summer to approve the resolution, which calls for preserving the current multi-stakeholder approach to Internet governance.  The vote confirms that the United States – including both Houses of Congress and both political parties – will speak with one voice at the upcoming World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) this December against any efforts to place Internet governance under the control of a multi-national body.  TIA thanks Senator Rubio and all others in the Senate who have championed this important resolution.
