TIA Asks Congress to Avoid Mandates on Wireless 911 Location Issues

ARLINGTON, VA (January 16, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today urged Congress to avoid mandates regarding wireless 911 location issues.

In a letter sent to the Senate Commerce Committee in advance of today’s hearing on this topic, TIA noted that the information and communications technology (ICT) industry continues to experiment with highly innovative approaches that hold the promise of improving location accuracy over time.  However, such technologies remain in their nascent stage.  Meanwhile, TIA members continue to help facilitate the transfer of currently-available location information between customers, service providers, and first responders.
