TIA Celebrates 20 Years of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accreditation

Washington, DC (September 6, 2012) – This year, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) celebrates 20 years as an ANSI-accredited Standards Development Organization (SDO). Throughout the past two decades, TIA has proven itself to be one of the most trusted, credible and forward-thinking associations in the telecommunications industry, producing more than 2700 active standards and documents and 3000 overall standards.

Originally formed in 1988, TIA operated under EIA’s (Electronic Industries Alliance) accreditation as a globally-recognized ANSI approved association. TIA soon displayed a passion for the same values that ANSI stood for from its inception. Through the hard work and diligence of the members and participants of the TIA Engineering Committees during these years, significant advances in telecommunications and Information Communications Technology have been realized, deployed and utilized, thus creating an industry with more than one trillion dollars in annual economic impact.

“Throughout recent decades, TIA members have sought to produce integrity-bound standards for one of the fastest growing and largest industries of the US economy, and we continue to do so today as a proud ANSI-accredited SDO,” states TIA president Grant Seiffert. “It’s almost impossible to think back to a time when there wasn’t an essential need for the role standards play.  Today, there is a broad, global technology portfolio that both enables and requires machines to communicate with other machines to make our lives as simple and efficient as possible, and for this to happen, the role of standards will continue to increase exponentially,” Seiffert continues.
