TIA Disappointed in Senate’s Passage of Net Neutrality CRA Resolution

Arlington, VA (May 16, 2018) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued the following statement following the Senate’s passage of a Congressional Review Act resolution to repeal the FCC’s Restoring Internet Freedom Order.

“We are disappointed that the Senate passed the Congressional Review Act resolution this afternoon, simply punting this issue back to the FCC, said TIA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Cinnamon Rogers. “The right way to protect the growth of our nation’s broadband infrastructure is for Congress to pass bipartisan legislation to remove the regulatory uncertainty that has hung over consumers, broadband providers and manufacturers for years.

“There is a path forward to achieving legislative success. Before the rules were dramatically changed in 2015, the FCC – under both Republican and Democratic administrations – had ensured both an open internet and provided a regulatory regime that incentivized investment in broadband.

For decades, the United States’ light-touch approach to regulating internet access service encouraged private sector innovation and investment in broadband infrastructure, and the development of high-tech communications equipment that allows the internet to thrive. As a result, our country’s modern networks have rapidly grown smarter and more efficient, delivering incredible speeds and tremendous bandwidth.”
