TIA Files Comments on NCTA Petition for Waiver for Set-Top Boxes from ACS Rules

ARLINGTON, VA (July 23, 2012) - On Monday, July 23, 2012, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) filed supportive comments with the Federal CommunicationsCommission on a National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) Petition for Waiver from the advanced communications services rules that were promulgated pursuant to the passing of the Twenty First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA).

TIA supports requests from the NCTA for a time-limited waiver for set-top boxes, and specifically noted its agreement with NCTA’s requested waiver time period accurately reflects market segment product cycles. TIA also asserted that inflexible application of the CVAA’s rules could force products off the market, completely depriving the public of realizing the product’s benefits. The failure to grant the waiver would harm the public interest without meaningfully increasing access for persons with disabilities.
