TIA issues New Requirements for Battery-Powered, Portable Land Mobile Radio Applications in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classified) Locations Standard

Arlington, VA (April 03, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, has released a new document, ANSI/TIA-4950 Requirements for Battery-Powered, Portable Land Mobile Radio Applications in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classified) Locations

ANSI/TIA-4950 was developed to provide a standalone set of intrinsic safety requirements that address issues unique to small, portable devices, which are likely powered by primary or secondary battery cells, required to operate for extended duty periods, in both classified and non-classified environments between cell replacement or re-charging. These requirements do not impede the traditional levels of RF performance traditionally deployed in Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems.

ANSI/TIA-4950 was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8 Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards, TR-8.21 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Intrinsic Safety(IS) Consideration

For more information about TR-8 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova at standards@tiaonline.org.

ANSI/TIA-4950 and all TIA standards may be purchased at http://global.ihs.com.
