TIA Opposes Title II Reclassification; Says FCC Rules will Impact Investment, Innovation and Growth
Arlington, Va. (May 1, 2015) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today voiced support for the efforts of members of the information and communications technology industry to halt enforcement of an FCC order that reclassifies the Internet as a Title II utility.
Reacting to today's filing of motions to stay the rules with the FCC, TIA CEO Scott Belcher issued the following statement:
“The FCC’s arbitrary decision to impose unnecessary, overly broad Title II regulations on the Internet has caused uncertainty in the marketplace and will impede investment, innovation and growth. TIA joins with others in urging the FCC to delay the effective date of its disruptive rules until the courts determine their legality. In the meantime, TIA will continue to work with Congress to achieve a bipartisan, balanced alternative to ensuring an open Internet.”
No urgency for the new rules has been identified by the FCC. As such, the public will not be harmed by maintaining the status quo until the courts resolve significant legal questions about scope and impact of the order.
