TIA Responds to USTR Request for Comment on Compliance with Telecommunications Agreements

ARLINGTON, VA (January 6, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today submitted to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) input in response to the request for comment regarding compliance with telecommunications agreements.  Under section 1377 of the Omnibus Trade and Competiveness Act of 1998, USTR reviews on an annual basis the operation, effectiveness, and implementation of, and compliance with, multilateral, bilateral, and regional trade agreements.

TIA appreciates the work of USTR to negotiate market-opening trade agreements and the monitoring of existing trade agreements to ensure a level playing field in the global telecommunications market.  In its comments, TIA highlighted concerns with policies and regulations in Argentina, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, India, and Indonesia.
