TIA Says Deployment of 600 MHz Spectrum is Necessary to Address Spectrum Crunch

Arlington, Va. (Oct. 27, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, is concerned by the announcement from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that the earliest possible date for the voluntary incentive auction of 600 MHz spectrum is early 2016. Deployment of this spectrum is essential to keeping pace with exploding consumer demand for mobile broadband, and this spectrum is a key part of the FCC's plan to address the looming spectrum crunch.

While it is unfortunate that the FCC's momentum has been temporarily been slowed by legal challenges, TIA appreciates the FCC's continuing outreach to broadcasters. The FCC's recent release of information regarding potential valuations for participating broadcasters was very encouraging, and TIA remains hopeful that many broadcasters will ultimately participate.

Even as we hope that outstanding legal issues can be resolved expeditiously, TIA encourages the FCC to leverage the time created by any potential delay to provide further clarity that will maximize broadcaster participation.
