TIA Says FCC Connect America Action Will Finally Spur Action on Rural Broadband Investment

ARLINGTON, VA (May 22, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading trade association for global manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers of information and communications technology (ICT), today commended the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) for today’s announcement regarding the Connect America Fund.  The FCC’s action will make up to $485 million available for expanding fixed and mobile broadband in rural and underserved areas.  Expanding access and investing in next-generation broadband are important policy priorities for TIA, as outlined in its recently released Innovation Agenda.

TIA President Grant Seiffert commented, “The Commission's action ends the uncertainly that has been delaying needed broadband investment in rural and hard to serve areas.  TIA commends the FCC for making up to $485 million in Connect America funding available for new broadband capital expenditure by price-cap carriers.”
