TIA Submits Comments on Spectrum Management to White House Office of Science & Technology

Arlington, VA. (March 20, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today filed comments with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy regarding federal spectrum management.

TIA stated that federal spectrum policy must be based on four principles – predictability, flexibility, efficiency, and priority.  The organization also applauded the Obama Administration for its efforts to improve spectrum management, but noted that a better tracking process and meaningful agency incentives to use spectrum more efficiently are required.  However, TIA opposed the use of spectrum fees or moving towards an agency ownership model for spectrum.  TIA also re-iterated its support for clearing spectrum to the maximum extent feasible, urged the Administration to support agency flexibility in the use of future auction proceeds, and urged continued federal support for spectrum sharing R&D efforts.
