TIA Submits Cybersecurity Framework Input to NIST

ARLINGTON, VA (December 13, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today submitted to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) input on the preliminary version of the Cybersecurity Framework being developed per Executive Order 13636, “Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.”

In our submission, we urge NIST to:

  • Clearly define the purpose and nature of the Framework;
  • Ensure that the Framework is retains key characteristics towards maximizing flexibility in its use;
  • Very carefully proceed with its proposal to address privacy;
  • Continue to work to collect existing standards toward building a Compendium which would provide a list of standards applicable to risk management for one or more sectors.

TIA is committed to improving resiliency to cyber-based attacks, including for critical infrastructure, and will continue to work with NIST and others as the Framework is finalized.
