TIA Submits Letter to FCC about Review of Commission Processes and Efficiency

ARLINGTON, VA (December 3, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, submitted a letter on December 2 to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Tom Wheeler in response to his plan to address the challenge of reforming processes to improve the efficiency of the FCC.

TIA’s suggestions include:

  • Ensuring a predictable and reliable device approval process at all times, including during government shutdown, by, among other means;
  • Permitting Supplier Declarations of Conformity for certain products as an alternative means by which an information and communications technology (ICT) manufacturer may demonstrate compliance with FCC rules to streamline the process ICT manufacturers must go through to get products to market;
  • Allowing the option of using electronic labels for ICT equipment as TIA has previously petitioned the FCC over one year ago;
  • Using resources to ensure timely notice and availability of FCC releases and filings to stakeholders; and
  • Revisiting the freeze on the issuance of frequent visitor badges to people who routinely visit the FCC’s headquarter Portals building.

TIA looks forward to working with the Chairman on these specific proposals, as well as others, that will help improve the efficiency of the FCC.
