FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TIA Supports the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014

ARLINGTON, VA (January 16, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today announced its support for the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014.  The legislation would renew the President’s Trade Promotion Authority while establishing Congressional negotiating objectives for trade agreements.

In a letter to the bill’s sponsors sent yesterday in advance of today’s Senate Finance Committee hearing, TIA cited the importance of the global market to the U.S. telecommunications industry.  The letter also highlighted the significant and demonstrable effects of prior trade agreements in increasing U.S. exports of information and communications technology (ICT) products and services.  TIA applauded the bill’s sponsors for including provisions regarding digital trade and addressing forced localization requirements imposed by some foreign countries.
