TIA Supports Opening 3.5 GHz Spectrum for Commercial Broadband Usage
Arlington, Va. (Apr. 17, 2015) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for adopting a Report and Order regarding use of the 3.5 GHz band for commercial mobile broadband and for issuing a Second Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to continue making progress on remaining issues.
TIA CEO Scott Belcher issued the following statement:
“The spectrum crunch remains very real and the FCC’s action represents significant progress towards opening more spectrum for broadband. TIA has supported opening 3.5 GHz spectrum to broadband applications, including through the innovative use of new technologies such as small cells.
“In particular, TIA appreciates the FCC’s tireless work in leading inter-agency efforts that have significantly reduced the size of the exclusion zones needed to protect federal incumbents in the band. Protecting services with superior spectrum rights (whether federal or commercial) against harmful interference remains very important in any spectrum sharing scenario. TIA looks forward to reviewing the Commission’s actions today and offering comments for further refinements.
