Issues Call for Interest in Signal Booster Systems Working Group

Arlington, Va. (September 24, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today announced that the TR-8 Committee on Private Radio Systems held its quarterly meetings in Anaheim, CA on August 15-17, 2013. The meetings were held in conjunction with the Project 25 Steering Committee, and were collocated with the 79^th Conference & Expo of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials.

Several items of note were acted on during the meetings:

• The TR-8.11 Subcommittee on Antenna Systems activated a working group on Signal Booster Systems, and has scheduled bi-monthly meetings initiating September 12, 2013. TIA invites all interested participants to join the working group.

• The elections for Chair and Vice-Chair of the TIA TR-8.21 Engineering Subcommittee on Intrinsic Safety Considerations have been concluded. TIA joins the industry in congratulating and thanking the following individuals for assuming leadership roles in the subcommittee:

• John Lambrou, Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at Motorola, was re-elected Chair.
• Brian Martens, Engineering Manager at Harris RF Communications, was re-elected Vice-Chair.

• The TR-8.8 Subcommittee on Broadband Data Systems has recently published TSB-4973, Broadband Data Protocol Standards Overview.  The subcommittee also approved opening new projects to work on a Telecommunications Systems Bulletin for push-to-talk use cases, as well as a TIA standard for mission-critical push-to-talk requirements. TIA invites all interested participants to join the subcommittee.

• A project to upgrade TIA-PN-102.CCAA-A Transceiver Measurement Methods was approved and issued for ballot.

• The following projects were approved for publication:

• TIA-PN-102.BAED, Packet Data Link Layer Control Procedures
• TIA-PN-102.BAEJ, Conventional Management Service Packet Data

• Two revision projects have been opened to upgrade standards to American National Standards:

• ANSI/TIA-PN-BAJB-A, Tier 1 Location Services
• ANSI/TIA-PN-BAJC-A, Tier 2 Location Services
• The Engineering Committee also approved initiation of following projects:

• ANSI/TIA-PN-102.CCAB-A, Two Slot TDMA Transceiver Performance Recommendations
• TIA-PN-4973.201, Mission Critical PTT Requirements
• TSB-PN-4973.202, PTT Use Cases

Nominations are open for the Vice-Chair of the TR-8.25 subcommittee on Project 25 Compliance Assessment and the Chair of the LTE task group in TR-8.19 Wireless Systems Interference and Coverage subcommittee. Interested volunteers are requested to contact standards@tiaonline.org.
The next TR-8 and P25 meeting will be collocated with TIA 2013, taking place October 7-10, 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD. TIA 2013 will also include a FirstNet and Public Safety Workshop on October 7 sponsored by TR-8.
