TIA Workshop Will Explore Transition to 5G Networks – Nov. 21 in Arlington, Va.

Executives, Policymakers and Technologists will Discuss Challenges & Opportunities in the Transition to 5G Networks

Arlington, Va. (October 29, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, will host a special workshop focused on the transition to fifth generation (5G) mobile networks. The TIA workshop, “Beyond 2020: A Vision of 5G Networks,” will take place Thursday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be held at TIA’s headquarters (1320 N. Courthouse Rd., Suite 200 in Arlington).

Network operators and manufacturers are beginning to focus on the next generation of mobile communications, known as 5G, but what 5G will be – and how the network will transition – is still unclear.   TIA will bring together researchers and technologists from industry and leading research universities to discuss the challenges, policy barriers and new business models created by a 5G Network.

The workshop, which includes presentations and workshop discussions, will address topics such as how to achieve higher spectral efficiency to deliver data-intensive services at a lower cost per Gigabit and how to build a robust small cell infrastructure for a 5G Network. Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of the economic and technical need for 5G Networks, as well as the technology being developed to deploy the next generation network.

“The deployment of 5G Networks is very important to the future growth and prosperity of mobile network operators,” said Cheryl Blum, vice president of technology and standards at TIA. “By the year 2020 current mobile networks will be stretched from the deployment of billions of connected devices and the continued adoption of mobile video and other data-intensive services. TIA’s workshop will bring together visionaries and thought-leaders from industry, academia, and global consortia to discuss the need for 5G and what new technologies are being developed to make 5G networking a reality.”

The program is open to the media. Interested reporters should contact Farrah Kim to RSVP: FarrahKim@Rational360.com or 202-568-8986.
