TIA Issues FCC Comments on Verizon’s Request to Discontinue Domestic Telecom Service in Regions Affected by Hurricane Sandy
Organization Says Aftermath of Sandy Highlights Need for Prompt Discussion about Transition from Legacy Phone Services to All-IP Network
Arlington, VA (July 29, 2013) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued comments to the Federal Communications Commission regarding the request by Verizon Wireless to discontinue some services as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
In its comments, TIA emphasized the importance of the ongoing transition to an all IP-network, noting that Verizon’s request “raises in very concrete terms a central question regarding the IP-transition: How should regulators respond when legacy telecommunications equipment no longer functions?”
TIA’s full comments are available here.
