TIA Applauds House E&C for Holding Global Supply Chain Security Hearing

Arlington, VA (May 16, 2018) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today issued the following statement after the conclusion of the House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on global supply chain security.

TIA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, Cinnamon Rogers, issued the following statement:

“TIA commends Chairman Blackburn and Ranking Member Doyle for holding today’s hearing focused on global supply chain security. TIA and its members agree with those in Congress advocating for immediate federal actions to address national security threats posed by specific Chinese and Russian companies that have been identified by Congress and federal agencies possessing appropriate expertise and access to intelligence information.

“We also agree that a whole of government interagency process, that involves public and private stakeholders, is much needed to address broader supply chain risk management issues. In the meantime, as that process is developed, we must act now on the information we have as it relates to these specific suppliers.

“TIA also supports the FCC’s efforts to promote the security of our nation’s communications networks through its universal service fund NPRM. Congress and the Commission have important roles to play in protecting our nation’s infrastructure.  And while questions were raised today regarding how USF funded carriers will be impacted by the FCC’s potential action, we are confident that these carriers will continue to benefit from a competitive marketplace for equipment that includes a number of trusted suppliers.

“We look forward to working with Congress, the FCC and the administration on this important topic.”
