Standards play a crucial role in the development of interoperable solutions. Yet while the demand for cloud-based services is high, the number standards pertaining to cloud computing is limited. To address how existing TIA engineering committees related to telecommunications cabling, mobile and personal communications, vehicular telematics, machine-to-machine (M2M) and eHealth may either create or amend existing TIA standards to be applicable to cloud services, TIA created the Cloud Computing Subcommittee (CCSC).
Acting as a liaison between TIA's twelve engineering committees, the CCSC provides TIA member companies and engineering committee participants with a forum to share information on cloud computing technology and trends, including technologies germane to cloud computing, such as the virtualization of data centers and the network (e.g. Software-Defined Networking, Network Functions Virtualization, Software –Defined Data Center), cybersecurity, big data and telecommunications/M2M analytics. Additionally, the CCSC recognizes how policy can impact the future adoption of cloud technology and maintains liaisons with TIA's Government Affairs Department to identify any domestic or international policies that could have an impact on the adoption of cloud services. Lastly, the CCSC maintains liaison relationships with national and international standards development organizations (SDOs) to determine how existing TIA standards may be adopted to avoid duplication of efforts.
CCSC calls are held every month and are open to TIA member companies and engineering committee participants.
