TIA Issues Call for Interest on Two New Projects for Optical Fiber Cable Color and Components

Arlington VA. (June 26, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables and TR-42.11 Engineering Committee on Optical Systems have issued a call for interest for the following documents:

• TIA-598-D-2 initially titled "Optical Fiber Cable Color Coding - Addendum 2, Jacket Color for Wideband Laser-Optimized 50/125 µm Multimode Fiber Cables (OM5)". This standard will define the jacket color of cables containing TIA-492AAAE wideband multimode fiber (OM5). A distinguishing color is needed to visually identify this first multimode cable specified to support wavelength division multiplexing in the wavelength range from near 850 nm to 953 nm.

• ANSI/TIA-568.3-D-1 initially titled "Optical Fiber Cabling Component Standard- Addendum 1 General Updates". This standard is applicable to premises optical fiber cabling and components. The scope of this addendum includes subject matter on the following topics: use of OM5 name, use of OSIa name, color for OM5 connecting hardware, connecting hardware color definitions, reference-grade to standard-grade loss allocation, MPO testing and updates based on FOTP-171-B.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Designers; installers; building owners; building tenants.

TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
