TIA issues New Optical Fiber Cabling and Component Standard

Arlington, VA (October 28, 2016) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks that develops voluntary standards for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, today released a new document, ANSI/TIA-568.3-D Optical Fiber Cabling and Component Standard.

The ANSI/TIA-568.3-D standard specifies requirements for components, such as cable, connectors, connecting hardware and cords. Basic connectivity arrangements formed from these components are also defined. Connector test requirements and guidelines for field testing are also incorporated into this standard.

The purpose of this standard is to specify cabling and component requirements for premises optical fiber cabling. This standard may be used by manufacturers, users, designers and installers. ANSI/TIA-568.3-D is also used as a reference by the suites of common standards and premises cabling standards, including fiber optic test procedures (FOTPs), fiber standards, cabled fiber standards and optical fiber system test procedures.

ANSI/TIA-568.3-D was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA’s TR-42 Telecommunications Cabling Systems Engineering Committee and subcommittee TR-42.11 for Optical Systems.

TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities. For more information about TIA’s Engineering Committee TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at standards@tiaonline.org.
