TIA issues Three New Standards for First Responder Radio Performance

Arlington, VA (June 29, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, has released three new documents:

TIA-102.BAAA-B, FDMA – Common Air Interface, ensures that subscriber unit equipment interoperates at the Physical Layer and Data Link Layer with subscriber unit equipment from different manufacturers, and with radio systems for different agencies. This allows effective and reliable intra-agency and inter-agency communications in an all-digital mode for voice and data.

TIA-102.BAAC-D, Common Air Interface Reserved Values, is a supplement to the TIA-102.BAAA Common Air Interface (CAI) and describes the CAI Reserved Values that may be utilized by communications equipment conforming to TIA-102 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) standards.

TIA-102.BAHA-A, Fixed Station Interface Messages and Procedures, defines a Conventional Fixed Station Interface (CFSI) which maybe either analog or digital. The CFSI is the interface between a conventional fixed station, which is defined as a functional component of a Fixed Station Subsystem, and a Conventional Fixed Station Host (CFSH). The standard fully describes the CFSI including its architecture and protocols.  In addition, the standard describes a basic analog audio and control interface and a more capable Internet Protocol based digital interface designed to work with IPv4.

TIA-102.BAAA-B and TIA-102.BAAC-D were formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8 Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards, TR-8.15 Common Air Interface subcommittee. TIA-102.BAHA-A was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8 Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards, TR-8.19 Wireline System Interfaces subcommittee.

TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
