Ali Niknejad, Faculty Director at the Berkeley Wireless Research Center, one of the pioneers in millimeter wave research, talks about their joint efforts with DARPA and the National Science Foundation to demonstrate the benefits of millimeter wave and massive MIMO. Niknejad discusses how they deal with the challenge of millimeter wave or massive MIMO: having hundreds or thousands of antennas for cellular communications, and how to manage this challenge in an energy and cost efficient manner.
