injection laser diode (ILD)
A laser that uses a forward-biased semiconductor junction as the active medium. Note: Stimulated emission of coherent light occurs at a p-n junction where electrons and holes are driven into the junction. (188) Synonyms diode laser, laser diode, semiconductor laser. See figure on following page.
