terminal endpoint (TE) functional group

A functional group that includes functions broadly belonging to Layer 1 and higher layers of the CCITT Recommendation X.200 Reference Model. (188) Note 1: The functions of a TE functional group are performed on various types of equipment, or combinations of equipment, such as digital telephones, data terminal equipment, and/or integrated work stations. Note 2: Examples of TE functions are protocol-handling, maintenance, interface, and connection functions.
