TIA issues New Telecommunications - Telephone Terminal Equipment - Alerter Acoustic Output Performance Requirements for Analog Telephones Standard

Arlington, VA (June 21, 2016) – The Telecommunications Industry Association, which develops standards for the information and communications technology industry, has released a new document, TIA-470.220-E Telecommunications - Telephone Terminal Equipment - Alerter Acoustic Output Performance Requirements for Analog Telephones.

TIA-470.220-E -This standard establishes criteria and procedures for evaluating the Resistance and Impedance performance of analog telephones and terminals.  Such equipment may be connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to provide traditional narrowband (300 to 3300 Hz) wireline telephone service.  It may also be connected to Analog Terminal Adapters (ATAs) and Voice Gateways (VGs) that provide packet-based services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), some of which are capable of supporting wideband (100 to 7000 Hz) voice transmission.

TIA-470.220-E was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-41 Performance and Accessibility for Communications Products, TR-41.3 Analog and Digital Wireline Terminals subcommittee.

For more information about TR-41 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova at standards@tiaonline.org.

TIA actively seeks participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.
