Big Data is playing an ever increasing role in the automotive sector. This webcast will explore data usage from the perspectives of Level 2 and up autonomy, car care, driver intelligence and safety, first responder data, retail marketing, the increasing intelligence of roadways and other advances. With big data comes questions of security, cybersecurity, privacy related to data capture, management, sharing. These issues will be discussed from technological and policy perspectives, and will include current best practices.

Nat Beuse, Associate Administrator, Vehicle Safety Research, U.S. Department of Transportation

Mr. Nat Beuse works as the Associate Administrator for Vehicle Safety Research at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In that role, he is responsible for NHTSA’s vehicle safety research activities which are focused on achieving the agency’s mission of reducing fatalities and injuries caused by motor vehicle crashes. This includes developing and conducting research aimed at supporting Federal motor vehicle safety standards and consumer information programs, spurring voluntary industry actions through guidelines, and advancing the state of the art on wide variety of vehicle programs. He is also responsible for the Vehicle Research and Test Center where a significant amount of laboratory testing and analysis occur. Prior to this role, Mr. Beuse worked as the Office Director for Crash Avoidance Rulemaking located within the rulemaking arm of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Nat has published and presented several technical papers dealing with occupant safety, consumer information, and vehicle design. Nat received his undergraduate and graduate degree from Marquette University located in Milwaukee, WI. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Norma Krayem, Co-Chair, Cybersecurity & Privacy at H&K and former Deputy Chief of Staff at U.S. DOT

Norma Krayem is a senior policy advisor in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office and co-chair of the firm's Cybersecurity and Privacy Group. Ms. Krayem previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as in key roles at the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State. Ms. Krayem focuses her practice on the impacts of cyber risks and privacy issues on critical infrastructure, working extensively with key sectors, including the automotive and transportation industry.

Ms. Krayem integrates dynamic technology solutions, such as the use of Information Technology across all sectors and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) tools for both efficiency and security. Using her knowledge of the ongoing use of "Big Data" and the "Internet of Things," she helps clients focus on gaining a broader awareness and understanding of the need for both "privacy by design" as well as "security by design."

Harry Lightsey, Executive Director, Global Connected Customer Experience, Global Public Policy, General Motors

Harry Lightsey was appointed Executive Director – Global Connected Customer Experience in the Global Public Policy organization in April 2013. Harry joined GM in March of 2012 as Director, Federal Affairs - OnStar, Infotainment and Strategy Development. Subsequently, Harry also led the Federal Affairs team. He retired from AT&T in 2009 after serving as President of Southeast Region and as its Senior Vice President of Legislative and External Affairs. Harry also served as State President South Carolina of BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc.

Harry’s career in the telecom industry spanned over 26 years, including holding a variety of positions in the external affairs and legal organizations at BellSouth. He began his telecommunications career in 1982 when he joined Southwestern Bell.

He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. He was named co-chair of the Economic Development Transition Task Force by South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges. He was a founding member of the board of City Year-Columbia, a youth service organization, and has participated in numerous other charitable organizations. In 2002, he received the Order of the Palmetto, the South Carolina’s highest recognition for his achievements in leading the ground breaking effort to establish leading research and development programs in higher education. He has also served on the Princeton National Alumni Executive Board and on the Board of Trustees of the College of Charleston. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University in 1978, majoring in Japanese Studies. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1981.
