Data center operators are grappling with change. The increased adoption of cloud computing technologies is driving a diverse set of data center and cloud computing offerings, from co-location and managed infrastructure to new Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platforms, and data center operators are looking at many ways to leverage converging infrastructure into new revenue.
Join TIA for a tour of a local data center and a day-long discussion on the critical issues impacting the data center industry, including:
- New design trends shaping the next-generation data center
- Creating new revenue by leveraging infrastructure convergence
- Creating premiums via industry ecosystems within data centers
- The Impact of new trade agreements on data center operators
Who Should Attend?
- Cloud Computing and Data Center Providers
- Internet Service Providers, Carriers, and Operators
- Content Providers and Content Delivery Network (CDN) Providers
- Government Agencies and Enterprises Managing Complex IT Infrastructure
Meet Professionals Like You, Including:
- Chief Technology Officers, Chief Information Officers, and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs)

Addressing DDoS Attacks Collectively: How Cybersecurity in the Data Center is a Shared Responsibility
Given the centralization of enterprise tenants, infrastructure and cloud-based applications residing within data centers, data centers are increasingly becoming the focal point for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks manifest themselves in many forms, from volumetric attacks that leverage a facility’s large connectivity pipes to overwhelm servers to application layer attacks, commonly targeting Platform as a Service (PaaS) providers.
To ensure that the tenants and applications residing within a data center are secure, the role of the data center operator is becoming increasingly intertwined with cybersecurity. This session will address how cybersecurity is becoming a shared responsibility that requires collaboration with tenants, connectivity providers and data center operators.

Infrastructure Agnosticism: Creating the Agnostic Cloud
Current data center network infrastructure is undergoing a fundamental change with the abstraction of various functions from hardware. From storage, networking, security and compute – every function within the data center is becoming disassociated from hardware and becoming software driven. For enterprises and telcos this transformation offers many new possibilities, including best of breed interoperability, but this transformation is not without it challenges. For incumbent hardware vendors, the transition from hardware-based value to software-based value calls for new and unfamiliar offerings and new partners.
This session will address the current state of infrastructure agnosticism – who is calling for it and what the industry is saying about – and what realities are in store for the industry.
- Rick Talbot, Principal Analyst, Optical Infrastructure, Current Analysis
- Amy Copley, Director, Solutions Marketing, BTI Systems
- Charles Conte, Director, North American Strategy – Open Networking, Dell

Best Practices in Physical Data Center Security
A host of new and emerging threats face data center operators. This session explores ways to mitigate risk and utilize best practices in the implementation of physical security for data centers. Elements, tools and cost effects of implementing physical security that are applicable in the design or retrofit stage will be addressed. This includes reviewing the newest technologies that integrate with analytics and provide recording and reporting functions, implementing measures on the best approach to integrate systems, and examining ways to anticipate, project and save on the costs of a data center security project.

- Robert Murphy, Program Manager, American Systems
International Trade Policy Developments and the Impacts on Data Center Operations
As almost every facet of government, commercial, and individual life becomes increasingly digitized within an all-IP world – the Internet of Things – through innovative solutions such as network virtualization, ongoing negotiation of key international agreements hold the potential to balkanize the Internet and reduce the many benefits of its open architecture.
This session will give attendees an overview of the challenges and solutions to cross-border data flows, including updates on existing and approaching trade negotiations that impact the evolution of data centers. Topics to include:
- Current, practical solutions to regulatory compatibility for cross-border data flows that are administered by the Department of Commerce (e.g. U.S.-EU Safe Harbor and APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules).
- The regulatory challenges in other countries that can restrict the ability of data centers to send data from one legal jurisdiction to another (i.e. cross-border data flows).
- Future policy solutions through the use of trade agreements being negotiated by the U.S. and other countries (e.g. TPP and T-TIP).
Speakers:
- Brian Scarpelli, Director Government Affairs, TIA
- Joshua Meltzer, Senior Fellow, Global Economy and Development, Brookings Institution
- Jennifer Sanford, Senior Manager, International Trade and Energy Policy, Cisco
- Nick Fetchko, Director, International Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs, Verizon
- Michael Rose, Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration
