Ms. Atkinson holds a B.S. in Industrial Distribution from the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University (College Station, TX), and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Management of Technology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She resides in Bandera, Texas, the 'Cowboy Capital of the World,' with her husband and 2 sons.

DJ Saul

DJ Saul is the CMO and Managing Director of ISL (an AdAge 2014 and 2016 Small Agency of The Year). One of the company’s first employees, DJ is now responsible for ISL’s marketing, DC operations, partnerships and business development as well as the company’s ongoing experimentation/prototyping efforts. DJ advises companies and early stage ventures on everything from digital to experiential marketing strategy, to branding and partnership development, and has been described as “an invaluable pillar of support for the region’s aspiring entrepreneurs.” In short, he brands, markets, and creates experiences that launch companies, sell products, and connects people and organizations with what they need to succeed. DJ studied International Affairs at George Washington University and Beijing Foreign Studies University. He is a member of NextGen Venture Partners, a member of the World Economic Forum’s Young Global Shapers, co-producer of the DC Tech Meetup, and serves on the advisory board of Think Local First DC.

With new technology and IoT transforming our lives a daily basis, to stay ahead of the curve, understanding how the physical and digital worlds are crashing together is paramount to creating truly impactful experiences (whether online or off). I’ll plan to cover new technologies/products/experiments that are representative of the broader impact of data, IoT, and even VR/MR. I’ll dive into the current landscape, review the latest and greatest examples, breakdown what some of these things actually cost to produce, and perhaps share select predictions of what’s yet to come.

Jason O. Hallstrom

Dr. Hallstrom serves as Director of Florida Atlantic University’s Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE), which coordinates FAU’s activities in Sensing and Smart Systems. I-SENSE is a technology clearinghouse for sensing, communication, and data management technologies and serves as an interdisciplinary hub, cultivating research, education, and service initiatives that cut across academic units and industry partners. Active program areas include Infrastructure Systems, Marine and Environment, and Health and Behavior.

Dr. Hallstrom is a Professor of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He holds a B.S. in Systems Analysis, an M.A in Economics, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer and Information Science. His expertise is in the design, deployment, and management of wireless sensing infrastructure, with an emphasis on sensor platform design. His work is currently supported through the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and NOAA (via subcontract from Coastal Carolina University) and was previously supported through the NSF, EPA, USDA, NASA, and other entities.

Thyaga Nandagopal

Dr. Thyaga Nandagopal is a Program Director at the National Science Foundation in the Directorate of Computer & Information Science and Engineering (CISE), where he manages wireless networking and mobile computing research across multiple funding programs. At NSF, he is spearheading the NSF Advanced Wireless Initiative, a $400M effort announced in July 2016. He also serves as the co-chair of the Wireless Spectrum Research and Development Senior Steering Group (WSRD SSG), which co-ordinates spectrum-related research and development activities across the Federal government.

Tim Abels

Tim Abels currently lead the definition of Intel’s earliest IOT Architecture Specifications and Forums and significantly participates on behalf of Intel for IOTWF, TIA ,IIC, OCF and University consortia on Telephony and IOT including Internet v2, 5G, machine automation, semantics and future proof. He was previously the Director of Server Architecture at Intel and Dell (HW, SW & Systems), and similar at MS, CompuServe and Pervasive as CTO. He holds over 50 patents, 30 publications, an Masters of Science in Computer Science from Purdue.

Tim is an entrepreneur with two IPOs, co-founding five Dell server divisions and labs including Dellhost sold to Sprint, and was at the major seminal conferences for: Comdex, JavaOne, Netscape, MS PDC, Linuxworld, VMworld and ARM. While working as CompuServe Chief Architect, he taught 15 CS courses at Ohio State and co-authored KCC, the first certified ANSI C compiler. As part of this special event, Tim will be releasing a foundational communications whitepaper.

Dr. David A. Bray

Dr. David A. Bray began work in public service at age 15 at a 4 GeV high-energy electron beam accelerator facility, later serving in the private sector before returning as IT Chief for the CDC’s Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Program during 9/11, SARS, monkeypox, and other outbreaks. He volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan to “think differently” on military and humanitarian issues in 2009. In 2013, he served as the Executive Director for the bipartisan National Commission for the Review of the Research and Development Programs of the U.S. Intelligence Community. He holds a PhD from Emory University’s business school and two post-docs from MIT and Harvard focused on collective intelligence and improving organizational resilience in turbulent environments. He has received both the Arthur S. Flemming Award and Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership in addition to the National Intelligence Exceptional Achievement Medal.

Dr. Bray currently is a Senior Executive and CIO for the Federal Communications Commission and through the efforts of a team of positive “change agents” he led the transformation of the FCC’s legacy IT to award-winning tech in less than two years. This included rolling-out new cloud-based IT that achieved results in 1/2 the time at 1/6 the cost. He was selected to be an Eisenhower Fellow to Taiwan and Australia focused on the impacts of the Internet and Everything and the recipient of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronic Association’s Outstanding Achievement Award for Civilian Government in 2015. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2016. He presently serves as a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, as a Visiting Associate at the University of Oxford, and as a Visiting Executive at Harvard University focused on issues of transformational leadership and the intersection of technology breakthroughs on foreign policies.

Tiffany A. Sargent

Tiffany A. Sargent holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University. She is also a Principle Engineer of Intel and has a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Having an engineering education has enabled her to span both technical and business areas at Intel Corporation for the past 22 years nationally and internationally. Tiffany began as a manufacturing systems engineer and rotated through five different business groups taking on various leadership and management roles. She has led multiple complex technical endeavors across different fields most notability in software, enterprise information technology, security, chipset platforms, and Internet of Things. Beyond her technical roles, she has held positions as a business strategist, innovation manager, operations manager, people manager, program manager, and program office manager. Tiffany has received Intel's highest award, the Intel Achievement Award, for innovative cyber-security solutions. Tiffany's primary interest has been to integrate decision science into her technical and leadership roles to accelerate and increase the speed and quality of data driven decisions.

Currently, Tiffany is a senior technical contributor within Intel Sales and Marketing Federal Team focused on designing Internet of Things and Machine to Machine (M2M) Complex Systems, Analytics, and Solution Architectures. She works with multiple federal agencies and business partners to introduce technology opportunities, create solution concepts, and develop technical considerations for policy inclusion that can pave the way to a “Smarter” Government. In 2014, she was named by Connected World Magazine as one of the “Women of M2M."

Chris Smith
Vice President of Technology, Global Business

Chris Smith brings 20 plus years of government and technical experience and a strong background in cloud, mobility, and security to Global Business - Public Sector Solutions where he leads a growing team of 200 plus technologists charged with developing AT&T products and services to meet the unique needs of the federal marketplace. Prior to his current leadership role at AT&T, Mr. Smith was the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer with Accenture Federal Services. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing the technology agenda for Accenture’s federal business portfolio and overseeing the services provided by Accenture to federal clients in strategic areas such as secure cloud computing, big data, logistics and supply chain and cost reduction.

Previously, Mr. Smith served as the Chief Information Officer of the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he led one of the largest federal government transitions to cloud computing. His federal government experience also includes senior positions with the General Services Administration and the Internal Revenue Service. During his military service, Smith led multiple missions around the globe as a Joint Tactical Communications Officer in the Air Force, Air National Guard and Army National Guard. Now retired, he also served as a communications officer in the Reserve Air Force.

Nada Golmie, PhD

Nada Golmie received her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland at College Park. Since 1993, she has been a research engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She is currently the chief of the wireless networks division in the Communications Technology Laboratory. Her research in media access control and protocols for wireless networks led to over 100 technical papers presented at professional conferences, journals, and contributed to international standard organizations and industry led consortia. She is the author of “Coexistence in Wireless Networks: Challenges and System-level Solutions in the Unlicensed Bands," published by Cambridge University Press (2006). She leads several projects related to the modeling and evaluation of future generation wireless systems and protocols and serves as a co-chair for the 5G mmWave Channel Model Alliance.

Ken Figueredo

Fred Yentz

Earlier, Fred held engineering, new business development and management positions at IBM. Dale Blanton

Dale has been involved in Technical Training since the mid-1980s, in several roles at the US Army Military Intelligence School. After acquiring a M.S. degree in Adult Education, Dale assumed positions involving Technical Training and Training Management, with companies such as Nuance Communications and Axis Communications, while working as an adjunct professor at several local colleges. Since relocating to South Florida from New England Dale has joined the Telit IoT Platforms team as a technical trainer.

Tom Milavec

As a leader in Gensler’s Digital Media brand design team, Tom brings great passion and knowledge about the power of experiential design to his clients. Educated and trained as an architect, Tom transitioned his work far beyond physical spaces and buildings, focusing on digital strategy and exploring this rapidly evolving realm of design. Throughout his career, he has lead the experiential design solutions for a variety of clients: Philadelphia Eagles, MTV, Capital One, Budweiser, Hilton, and Porsche. His experience includes branding and identity projects, print collateral, packaging, uniforms, signage and wayfinding, interiors, software engineering, hardware architecture and interactive installations. Through his work, Tom is constantly pursuing the bleeding edge where technology and architecture converge to redefine how humans interact with the built environment. Guodong (Gordon) Gao

Guodong (Gordon) Gao Ph.D., M.B.A., is the co-director of the Center for Health Information and Decision Systems (CHIDS), and associate professor in the Decision, Operations and Information Technologies Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. His research interests include IT's impact on care delivery, big data, patient empowerment, and quality transparency. Dr. Gao initiated and co-organize the annual Workshop on Health IT and Economics (WHITE).

His paper has been published or accepted at leading academic journals like Management Science, Information Systems Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Journal of Management Information Systems, and MIS Quarterly Executive. He has presented extensively at various conferences like ICIS, WISE, INFORMS, CIST, AcademyHealth, AshEcon, and iHEA. His research has been funded by AHRQ and NSF. And won best paper awards. He is a recipient of the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award.

He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and B.A. in Economics from Tsinghua University in 1998, his M.B.A. from the Tsinghua and MIT Sloan Joint Program in 2000, and PhD in Information System and Economics from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania in 2005.

Dr. David Wollman

Dr. David Wollman is Deputy Director of the Smart Grid and Cyber-Physical Systems Program Office of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Dr. Wollman is expanding NIST’s coordination and research activities in cyber-physical systems (CPS) and the Internet of Things (IoT), including through the NIST CPS Public Working Group and development of the NIST CPS Framework. Dr. Wollman also leads efforts to coordinate and accelerate the private-sector development of smart grid interoperability standards, including as part of the leadership team advancing the White House Green Button Initiative on energy usage information. Previously at NIST, he managed efforts to maintain and advance the U.S. electrical standards and metrology supporting the electric power industry, in addition to serving as scientific advisor, program analyst and bench-level scientist. Before joining NIST, Dr. Wollman received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a B.S. in physics from Michigan State University. He has received many awards, including two U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medals, and the NIST Applied Research Award, and he has received three U.S. patents. David will present the NIST Big Data Framework.
