Vehicle Connectivity Workshop

How Communications is Changing Vehicles and Operations

TIA’s one-day workshop, held in conjunction with the ITU Intelligent Transportation Systems Committee Meeting, presented a provocative view and perspectives from policymakers, automotive companies, mobile operators, suppliers and academia on the state of play and the future of vehicle connectivity.

Attendees learned about the government’s plans for advancing the future of vehicle communication, and heard from industry leaders who are doing the work to design, develop, and deploy the critical technology and services.

The workshop provided a perspectives of issues at play with vehicle connectivity including the future of vehicle-to-vehicle communications, the role of 5.9 GHz and 4G/LTE technology, achieving efficient, reliable spectrum usage and allocation, and ensuring secure connections, research and test bed initiatives, and the role of transportation in the future of smart cities.

Thank you to all who attended and made this successful event possible!

Testimonials describing the most effective aspects of the Vehicle Connectivity Workshop:
"Very timely with DOT (Department of Transportation) announcements and looking forward to 2016" | "The ability to network" "Board inclusion of industry experts"

Role of Communications in Test Beds [VIDEO]

Click here to download the Texas A&M Transportation Institute Data Privacy Considerations for Automated and Connected Vehicles research report.

An environment with continuous wireless connectivity and real streets, intersections, pedestrian crossings, storefronts and stoplights—without residents walking around—enables developers and manufacturers to develop, refine and advance technologies by testing vehicle infrastructure and equipment in a safe setting. Join a team of government, industry and academic stakeholders as they share the latest developments on how new approaches and emerging technologies can be integrated in a new mobility system through autonomous vehicle test beds.

Automotive Cyber Security [VIDEO]

Cyber security risks for the auto industry touch on both technology in the vehicle and the Big Data that is collected and stored throughout the supply chain, from the manufacturers, dealers and end users. As cars increasingly become complex digital devices that contain wired and wireless interfaces—with sensors that produce gigabytes of data every hour—auto cyber security has exponentially grown as a critical issue. This session will provide a forum for global information exchange among auto industry leadership, government and international information and communications technology (ICT) research.

Smart Cities Initiative [VIDEO]

In September the Administration announced a new “Smart Cities Initiative” that plans to invest over $160 million in federal research and leverage a multitude of technology collaborations to help local communities improve quality of life. This initiative seeks to leverage Information & Communications Technologies (ICT) to reduce traffic congestion, enhance quality and performance of transportation services, reduce costs and resource consumption, and respond to emergency situations more effectively. As this occurs, urban areas are transforming into a laboratory for applied innovation. This session will explore the potential for an “Internet of Things” – a ubiquitous network of connected devices, smart sensors, and big data analytics – to develop into an ecosystem that will improve the transportation infrastructure in urban areas.
