TIA Takes Cloud Computing by Storm

New Cloud Standards White Paper Issued; Cloud Experts Featured Live on TIA Now Sept. 30, Nov. 4; ‘Optimizing the Cloud' a TIA 2012 Education Track in June

Under the federal government's "Cloud First" plan, which sets a goal of devoting 25% of all federal IT spend on Cloud Computing initiatives, one question that demands immediate attention is: Will the ICT industry be able to keep up with the burgeoning market in federal demand for secure cloud products and services? Watch TIA Now's http://www.tianow.org/ this Friday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. EDT, when industry leaders, journalists and analysts will offer their unique and thought-provoking perspectives on "The Cloud and its Biggest Customer."

In the standards developing arena, TIA's Cloud Computing Task Group (CCTG) has just released a report on Cloud Computing proposing a strategy to address existing TIA standards and how they impact cloud technologies and standards.

The report finds that, based on current cloud experiences and the work of other organizations on cloud standards, some key interoperability issues can be anticipated around security, reliability, privacy, quality of service, accessibility, and manageability of cloud usage. While other groups are looking at these from a cloud-centric viewpoint, TIA will address these for interactions between TIA standards and cloud standards.

"Cloud computing is a technology that crosses the borders of traditional communications and touches on the expertise in several of our existing Engineering Committees," said Herb Congdon, TIA Associate Vice President of Technology and Standards. "This report provides a complete view of the TIA standards development committees and identifies how each can contribute to a comprehensive cloud computing systems program."

The CCTG anticipates existing TIA standards will interact with clouds in areas such as: telecommunications cabling systems, wireless telecommunications, vehicular telematics, smart devices, smart utility networks, healthcare ICT, etc.

Optimizing the Cloud at TIA 2012

Join TIA at its annual conference and summit, TIA 2012: Inside the Network, June 5-7, 2012 in Dallas. "Optimizing the Cloud" will be one of several education tracks at TIA 2012, where service providers will gain the information they need to insert them¬selves into the cloud services value chain by redefining their roles to expand beyond connectivity and provide Web-based applica¬tion delivery services.
