TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Standard for Installation, Alteration and Maintenance of Antenna Supporting Structures and Antennas

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (June 5, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-14 Engineering Committee on Structural Standards for Communication and Small Wind Turbine Support Structures has issued a call for interest for document TIA-1019-A-1 initially titled "Standard for Installation, Alteration and Maintenance of Antenna Supporting Structures and Antennas - Addendum 1".

The scope of this Standard is to provide an addendum to construction considerations and loading requirements for structures under construction related to antenna supporting structures and antennas. The Standard addresses the requirements for specialized equipment such as: gin poles, hoists and required temporary supports. This Standard provides criteria based upon both Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and Allowable Stress Design (ASD) methods. Figures and drawings in this Standard are for illustration purposes only and are not intended to represent all potential aspects of a particular lift or rigging situation.

This addendum is to further clarify the committee’s intent for this standard to facilitate communications between contractors, engineers and owners while maintaining the contractor’s responsibility over Means and Methods with input from Qualified Engineers regarding Strength and Stability of the structure.

The standard is meant to protect the personnel under the supervision of contractor(s) and communications infrastructure during the installation alteration and maintenance of antenna supporting structures.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to members of the: National Association of Tower Erectors; Occupational Safety and Health Administration, PCIA- The Wireless Infrastructure Association, Federal Communications Commission, American Society of Safety Engineer, National Association of Broadcasters,  National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, CTIA- The Wireless Association Telecommunication Industry Association, Telecommunications Industry Registry Program, and tower owners, or wireless carriers,

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
