TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Fiber Optic Terminal Equipment Receiver Sensitivity and Maximum Receiver Input

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (December 18, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.11 Engineering Committee on Optical Systems has issued a call for interest for document TIA-526.3 initially titled Fiber Optic Terminal Equipment Receiver Sensitivity and Maximum Receiver Input. TR-42.11 is developing guidelines for a test to measure the minimum optical power required at the input of the single-mode fiber optic system receiver connector (on the line side) to operate at specified Bit Error Ratios (BERs).In addition the test will verify that the guaranteed error performance is obtained at the minimum and the maximum optical input power specified by the terminal equipment manufacturer.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Optical Fiber Manufacturers, Developers and Users.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at standards@tiaonline.org.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
