TIA Issues a Call for Interest on a New Project for Test Method for Evaluating Fungus Resistance of Optical Fiber and Cable

Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.

Arlington VA. (June 13, 2015) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-42.12 Engineering Committee on Optical Fibers and Cables has issued a call for interest for document TIA-455-56-C initially titled Test Method for Evaluating Fungus Resistance of Optical Fiber and Cable. TR-42.12 is developing guidelines for this method and is intended to evaluate the adequacy of optical fibers and cables to retain their structural integrity and performance level under environmental conditions favorable for the development of fungal growth. These conditions are: high humidity, a warm atmosphere, and the presence of inorganic salts.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Users and manufacturers of optical fiber and fiber cable.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-42 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Germaine Palangdao at standards@tiaonline.org.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
