FCC Appoints TIA Director Brian Scarpelli as Cyber Working Group’s Co-Chairman

The Federal Communications Commission has named Brian Scarpelli, director of government affairs at the Telecommunications Industry Association, co-chairman of a cybersecurity-focused working group under FCC’s Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council.

Scarpelli will co-lead CSRIC’s Secure Hardware and Software — Security by Design group with Joel Molinoff, chief information security officer at CBS Corp., TIA said Monday.

The working group crafts recommendations for the FCC related to best practices that communications equipment manufacturers can adopt in order to protect public communications infrastructure from potential cyber attacks.

“With the ever-increasing risk from cyber-attacks, it is important that industry work hand-in-hand with public sector partners to protect our critical communications infrastructure,” said Scott Belcher, CEO of TIA.

“I am pleased the FCC has chosen Brian to lead this important working group – he is an expert in cybersecurity and communications and will serve the FCC well.”
