Smart communities continue to expand the numbers and types of IoT applications they use for operations and local community services. Smart metering, parking, public transportation, and street light applications are being enabled by current broadband networks and future 5G technologies that spur innovation and investment in the smart community ecosystem.
At the same time, major auto manufacturers and other transportation technology companies are developing intelligent transportation solutions and redefining themselves as integral to next generation mobility of people and things. These companies are beginning to offer services that reach beyond the car to connect and interact with the community, main street, and home.
Smart communities, along with intelligent transportation, require connectivity networks that deliver comprehensive, ubiquitous, broadband and low-band capacity that enable a growing variety of IoT applications.
Join city officials, automotive thought leaders, network infrastructure companies and IoT application developers for informative and engaging discussions on connected community development.

A View From The Trenches
Communities seeking the benefits of connectivity, such as lighting, transportation, smart grid or operations services are faced with difficult choices: What are the first steps; how to integrate applications; which vendors to work with; budget constraints, financial needs, business models and managing private-public partnerships; how to assure an effective long term strategy while navigating short term priorities and constraints; inter-departmental silos and streamlining of project development and operations; and others. Learn how communities are addressing these issues and how the communications ecosystem can support their plans for current and future connectivity.

Telcos and the Consumer IoT Conundrum
Telcos core business is a commodity. All of them are now trying to get into other areas to increase the share of consumer wallet. One key area is consumer IoT as it related to connected home. So far Telcos have been trying to address this market by providing an IoT platform to their customer base. But is that the right approach? Linus Lundberg - Head of Enterprise Business Development at Nest, will share Nest's perspective on what Telcos' can do to accelerate their efforts in this space.
Keeping Citizens Safe
The greater the number of networks, applications and interoperable edge points, the greater the security vulnerabilities. As IoT applications for smart living (ie, hospital care) and automotive (connected vehicles) become more sophisticated, risks increase. What security protocols should be used, and which require development? Is the NIST Framework enough? What else should industries, e.g., communications, automotive, smart energy, healthcare take on to ensure that people are safe what IoT security standards need to be developed?
