TIA Issues Call for Interest on new Project for Antenna Mounting System Classification Specification Bulletin
Stakeholders Invited to Contact TIA Regarding Participation.
Arlington VA. (January 10, 2017) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) today released a new bulletin, TSB-5053, Mounting System Classification. This bulletin provides a classification regime that could be used to classify existing and new mounting systems. When using mounting systems classified in accordance with the specification, an owner would be able to determine the maximum loads that could be applied to existing mounting systems as well as determine the proper mounting systems required for proposed antenna configurations. The objective of the bulletin is to establish a mounting classification methodology to facilitate determining the suitability of mounting systems for site-specific applications. The intent is to provide a mount classification that is based on the structural capacity of a mounting system.
The bulletin is intended to provide procedures for the following:
· How to determine the maximum loads that may be supported at a mounting pipe location for mounting systems
· How to determine the required mount classification for a site-specific mounting application
· How to determine the classification of a mounting system based on a structural analysis
The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Tower owners: contractors: consulting engineers: mounting system manufactures.
TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee.
